ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s diving team will send junior Natasha Dark and freshman Jocelyn Gallais to the 2019 NCAA Zone E Championships in Flagstaff, Ariz. with the goal of advancing to the NCAA Championship. Hosted by Northern Arizona, the meet is set to begin on Monday, March 11 at 7 a.m. MT/ 8 a.m. MT and will conclude on Wednesday, March 13.
Each zone, of which there are five and determined based on geography, is allotted a specific number of qualifiers per event.
The top five female divers from each event at the zone meet will be eligible for the 2019 NCAA Championships. Additional place finishers in each event will be eligible based on the number of student-athletes from Zone E who finished in the top 16 in that event at the previous year’s NCAA Championships.
All divers will have a chance to compete in the morning preliminary round. The top 18 finishers from the preliminary round will advance to the finals later that afternoon.
For Zone E, the top eight-placing women in the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events will move on to the National Championship and the top nine will move on from the platform.
To qualify for the individual events in the NCAA dive cut, divers had to have earned a final score of 265 in the 1-meter dive, 280 in the 3-meter dive and 225 in the platform.
During the final home meet of the season, Dark qualified for the 1m dive and the 3m dive against Nevada on Feb. 2, 2019 with final scores of 292.95 and 283.73, respectively.
Gallais qualified in her first collegiate meet against NAU on Oct. 26, 2018 for the 1m dive with a final score of 265.50. In the 2018 Phil Hansel Invitational, she finished with a final score of 229.75 to make the NCAA dive cut for the platform.
