Lobos Shutout Firestorm for Second-Straight Win
PHOENIX, Ariz.— For the second time this weekend and the second time in as many matches, The University of New Mexico beach volleyball team earned a 5-0 decision, this time over Arizona Christian University on Saturday.
Once again, the Lobos needed just two sets on each of the five courts to accumulate the team point, and five sets were done in dominating fashion with the Firestorm not able to reach double-digit points in the set.
Jaclyn Inclan and Claire Nenninger were the first to finish on court five, easily winning 21-5, 21-10. Court four won in an equally dominating manner, making quick work of their opponents in a 21-8, 21-7 straight-set victory.
Lauren Twitty and Dali Rosado secured the team win on court one with a 21-13, 21-8 win and Yasmin Tan and Morgan Schreckler kept ACU off the board with a 21-9, 22-20 win on the second court.
Joey Benson and Carly Beddingfield maintained the shutout in a 21-16, 21-15 win to conclude the match and ensure the sweep.
The Lobos went 2-1 on the weekend with a 5-0 win over San Diego City College and a 4-1 loss to nationally ranked Grand Canyon to move to 4-6 on the season. The win also marks the second two-match win streak for UNM this season.
Up next for the Lobos is a trip back to Arizona for four matches next weekend at the University of Arizona. UNM will face familiar opponents in two of its matches in Louisiana- Monroe and Arizona State. The Warhawks defeated the Lobos 4-1 on March 1 and the Sun Devils won 5-0 on Feb. 23 in the third match of the season for UNM.
