ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. –  The University of New Mexico track and field team closed out its third consecutive home meet with the Collegiate Classic, picking up three event wins on Saturday at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Sophomore runner Adva Cohen started her day winning the mile after finishing with an altitude converted time of 4:39.98. Not only was the result a season best by 1.88 seconds, but Cohen subsequently moved into eighth all-time in program history for an individual performance.

Teammate Hannah Nuttall completed the mile 1.27 seconds later for a third-place finish, joining Cohen on the all-time list in 10th. Her time also produced a season best for the freshman, trimming her best event time by 4.37 seconds.

In the second heat of the women’s mile, Mackenzie Everett made it three Lobos to turn in a season best, running in 5:08.74, an improvement of 3.55 seconds from her season best run two weeks ago.

Max Wharton made it two event wins on the track, running a season best in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.72 to claim the victory. UNM runner Harrison Smith ran unattached in the race, finishing 1.58 seconds behind Wharton for the runner-up result with 1:54.30.

The final Lobo win came from freshman Aidan Quinn, who jumped a season-best 49-3 (15.01m) in the triple jump, earning his second-straight victory in the event. His third jump proved to be the winning mark, although his first jump of (48-2) 14.68m and his fourth jump of 48-7.50 (14.82m) would have also earned him the win. Going into the meet, his season best was 48-7.50, which he matched and surpassed in Saturday’s competition.

Pole vaulters Shannon Fritz and Katherine Whiting started off the final day of the Collegiate Classic with each finishing with their best marks of the season. For Fritz, her 12-2 (3.71m) clearance was a personal best for the junior, while for Whiting, the same mark was a season best. Both Fritz and Whiting were unable to clear the 3.86m bar, but Fritz had the advantage in the standings based on attempts.

Allison Mady threw 44-0.50 (13.42m) on her third attempt in the shot put to advance to the finals. The mark would hold as her best of the morning, resulting in a sixth-place finish.

A short while after the pole vault and shot put events began, Diamond Black set another season best, her second of the weekend, this time in the triple jump. On her third and final jump of the competition, the freshman recorded a 35-11.25 (10.95m) to improve on her season marks by 4.0″.

UNM’s success on the track continued in the women’s 800-meter run, with the Lobos making up three of the top-five finishers and four in the top six.

Adding to her success in the mile earlier in the day, in her first 800-meter run of the season, Cohen posted a second-place finish with 2:09.38. Her time once again placed her in the top-10 all-time ranks in the event, coincidentally also in eighth.

Following behind Cohen in third was Kieran Casey, who ran a season-best 2:09.74 to claim ninth all-time for an individual performance in the 800-meter. Rounding out the top five was Nuttall in fourth at 2:12.08, which proved to be a season best as well. Steffi Jones finished in sixth with 2:14.79.

In total, the Lobos produced 10 season-best results and one personal best on Saturday.

The Lobos remain home for the next meet, hosting the Don Kirby Collegiate Elite Invitational on Friday and Saturday. However, unlike in past home meets, UNM will be sending some members of the team to Washington for the Washington Husky Classic in Seattle.
