MANOA, Hawaii — The University of New Mexico men’s golf team wrapped up the second round of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Hawaii on Friday. Three Lobos improved their score from round one including senior Sean Carlon whose low score of two under, 70 led the squad in round two.

Carlon, who was named Mountain West Golfer of the Week this week, registered four birdies and 12 pars on the day to move him up three places on the leaderboard and put him in a tie for 19th. He is tied for second across the competition in par-5 scoring as he is averaging 4.25 (-6). Carlon, who posted a one under, 72 in round one, was able to shave off one stroke in round two to bring his combined score to a three under, 141.
Also improving his score in round two was freshman Sam Choi who chopped off four strokes from his first round score to card a 71 (-1). Choi, who is sitting tied for 50th, has registered four birdies in both rounds of action and is leading the squad in par-3 scoring with an average of 3.13 (+1).
Sophomore Galven Green remains the top Lobo on the leaderboard after shooting 72 in round two. His two-round score is four under, 140, putting him in a tie for 13th.
Senior Augustin Holé took one stroke off his game in round two as he recorded a 75 (+3) and registered three birdies. He is currently tied for 89th with a two-round total of 151 (+7). Freshman Ignacio Arcaya is in fifth for New Mexico after a second-round score of 81 (+9).
Junior Mark MacGrath, who is competing as an individual for the Lobos, holds a score of 15 over, 159.
As a team, New Mexico dropped five spots on the leaderboard to end the day tied for 11th with Arizona. The squad is holding a score of one under, 575 and is just one stroke behind 10th place GCU and two strokes behind Northern Colorado and UC Santa Barbara which are tied for eighth.
Arizona State jumped ahead two spots on the leaderboard to take the lead as it has recorded an 18 under, 558 through two rounds. Second-place Duke trails by two strokes (-16), while third-place Texas A&M is six strokes out of first (-12).
The third and final round of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate is set to tee off on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. MT with a shotgun start.
