ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team returns to Dreamstyle Arena – The Pit on Wednesday night to take on San José State for the first time this season. The Lobos and the Spartans are set to tip at 7 p.m.

Both squads enter Wednesday night’s contest coming off of tough road losses. UNM (10-13, 4-7 MW) fell at No. 6 Nevada while SJSU (3-19, 0-10 MW) dropped a 105-57 final on the road at Boise State.

The Lobos continue to be led by senior Anthony Mathis who averages 15.3 points per game on the season and in conference play. Mathis leads four players averaging scoring double figures in league play including redshirt-sophomore Vance Jackson (13.4), redshirt-junior Carlton Bragg (10.6) and sophomore Makuach Maluach (10.0).

Mathis remains ranked among the top players in the nation in shooting. He is currently ninth in the country in 3-point field goals per game (3.65) and 11th in total 3-point field goals made (84).

San José State is led by a pair of players scoring in double figures on the season including juniors Michael Steadman (13.1, 12.7 MW) and Brae Ivey (10.2, 7.7 MW). Sophomore Noah Baumann is the lone player to start all 10 conference matchups for the Spartans and averages 10.2 points in league competition.

SERIES HISTORY
UNM leads the all-time series over the Spartans 13-1 including a 7-1 mark at home. Last time the two squads met was on Feb. 3, 2018 in San Jose when the Lobos claimed a 71-68 victory.

THE COACHES
Head coach Paul Weir is 29-28 in his second season with the Lobos, 57-34 in his third season as a head coach. San José State head coach Jean Prioleau is 7-45 in his second season at the helm of the Spartans and in his career.
