Men’s Tennis Inks Alex Maggs of England

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.Ben Dunbar, head men’s tennis coach for The University of New Mexico, has announced that Alex Maggs of Birmingham, England has signed an NLI and will join the team for the 2019-20 academic year.
 
Alex is the first signee for men’s tennis for the 2019 class.  The Lobos are scheduled to graduate two current players, Ricky Hernandez Tong and Michael Tran.
 
Maggs is one of England’s top teenage players, holding an LTA rating of 1.1 with a current U18 ranking of 17.  His current ITF rating is 334 and has climbed as high as 321 in the world junior rankings.  He won the ITF G4 Finland Doubles in November and the ITF G3 Sweden Doubles just last month.  He also was runner-up for the British National Championship in doubles in 2017 and 2018.
 
“We are extremely excited to sign Alex, he’s a great guy and brings a strong singles and doubles game to the team. He has competed all over the world and won some big matches in some big tournaments,” said Dunbar.  “We are so excited to welcome Alex to the family and we are excited to see him in Cherry and Silver representing the Lobos, he’s going to be one to watch for Lobo Nation!”
