ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Following the first bye week of the season, The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team is back in action on the road on Saturday to take on third-place Fresno State. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. MT on ESPNU.

The Lobos (9-11, 3-5 MW) enter Saturday’s game coming off of a narrow, last-second 68-66 loss to Utah State at home last Saturday while the Bulldogs (15-5, 6-2 MW) are 3-1 over their last four MW games. In their last two matchups, the Bulldogs fell to Colorado State in Fort Collins by a score of 74-65 before earning a 75-62 victory over Wyoming on Wednesday.

The Lobos are led by three players averaging scoring in double figures including senior Anthony Mathis (15.6), redshirt-sophomore Vance Jackson (12.8) and redshirt-junior Carlton Bragg (11.3). Fresno State has four players averaging scoring in double figures and ranks fourth in the league in scoring offense at 76.2 points per game on the season. 

SERIES HISTORY
New Mexico leads the series over the Bulldogs 16-12, but the Lobos are 4-10 on the road in Fresno. 

The last time the two teams met was on March 3, 2018 in Albuquerque on Senior Night. The Lobos earned a 95-86 victory in overtime, holding the Bulldogs to just five points on free throws in the overtime period. The win came after Fresno State earned an 89-80 victory in Fresno in January. The teams’ last meeting was the fifth of a seven-win streak.

THE COACHES
Head coach Paul Weir is 28-26 in his second season with the Lobos, 56-32 in his third season as a head coach. Fresno State head coach Justin Hutson is 15-5 in his first season at the helm of the Bulldogs and in his career.
