Football Posts Highest Fall GPA in Program History

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico football team turned in a stellar semester in the classroom.  A record-breaker in fact.

The Lobo football team posted a combined 2.83 grade point average, and along with that being the third-best GPA in program history (behind a 2.96 in the Spring of 2003 and last Spring’s 2.85 GPA), it was the best in-season GPA in the program’s history, dating back to when complete grade tracking records exist, which is 1988.

Combining the 2.83 of the Fall 2018 semester with last semester’s 2.85, it also means that Lobo Football turned in the past calendar year GPA as well.

The semester also gave UNM a record streak.  It marked the 14th straight semester that the Lobo Football team has had at least a 2.5 GPA.  All of those have come under the direction of head coach Bob Davie, and that 14-semester streak is the longest streak the program has ever had.

In all, 46 members of the team had at least a 3.0 grade point average, and 21 had at least a 3.5 grade point average.  Six, Coltin Gerhart, Bijon Parker, Javohn Jones, Kyle Stapley, Reece Wilkinson and Tyson Dyer, all recorded 4.0 or better GPAs.  Over the last two semesters, Lobo Football has seen 91 players earn at least a 3.0 GPA.
