UNM Women Tabbed Fourth in FloTrack Preseason Ranking

FloTrack Release

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—  The University of New Mexico women’s track and field team officially gets underway with the indoor portion of the season on Jan. 18 at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collegiate Invitational, but the Lobos enter the season with high expectations as FloTrack has projected them as the preseason No. 4 team in the country.

FloTrack has projected UNM to score 38 points at the NCAA indoors, accounting for a first- and second-place finish by Ednah Kurgat and Weini Kelati, respectively, in the 5K as well as a second-place finish by Adva Cohen in the 3K.

The Lobos are projected to earn six points from Kurgat, four points from Kelati in the 3K and two points to Charlotte Prouse in the 5K.

Other potential scorers are Cohen in the mile and Prouse in the 3K.

For comparison, in last year’s indoor NCAA championship meet, the Lobos finished tied for 10th with 17 points behind a second-place result by Kurgat in the 5K followed by a fifth-place showing by Kelati in the event. Kelati also produced a personal best time for a fifth-place finish in the 3K and Kurgat finished behind the Kelati in eighth.  The finish was the women’s best at the NCAA Indoor Championship.

Fans can attend UNM home track meets using their New Mexico Mutual Pride Pass, which can be purchased for $50, and includes admission to all indoor track, baseball and softball home events.
