ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Lobos are walking into their fourth matchup against a nationally-ranked team on Friday as they take on No. 23 Tulsa on the road at 6 p.m. (MT). Sophomore and leading Lobo scorer Matt Puig heads home to Oklahoma for the match against his former team.
The Lobos (2-2-0) are coming off of a 5-1 victory over No. 30 Cal State Fullerton on Sunday and have knocked off two ranked teams already this season. Four of UNM’s first five opponents will have been ranked at the time they faced the Lobos while the fifth opponent, CSUN, was ranked earlier this season – marking the fifth squad out of five that has been ranked this season that the Lobos have faced.

Last Meeting: Last time the Lobos faced Tulsa was in 2013 when the Hurricanes were members of Conference USA. In the first meeting of the season, the Lobos earned a 1-0 victory over Tulsa, before falling 3-0 to the Hurricanes in the C-USA Tournament. Regardless, the Lobos advanced to the NCAA tournament where they made it all the way to the final four, falling to No. 1 Notre Dame 2-0.

In the first four games, the Lobos have racked up 25 points on nine goals and seven assists to lead Conference USA in all three categories. The Lobos also lead the league in points per game with 6.25.
SCORES GALORE!
Last season, the Lobos scored 25 goals all season. With nine, UNM is just 3.5 away from halfway there, after just four games. Only four players scored three goals or more in 2017 while sophomore Matt Puig already has three in four games, followed by two for freshman Omar Grey, senior Antoine Vial and sophomore Nick Taylor.
TAYLOR EMERGES
Sophomore Nick Taylor scored twice all season in 2017 in 12 games and 354 minutes. On Sunday night in UNM’s 5-1 victory over No. 30 Cal State Fullerton, Taylor scored twice including the first goal of the game to give UNM the advantage.
FIVE OR MORE
The last time the Lobo scored five goals or more in a single game prior to Sunday night’s 5-1 win over Cal State Fullerton came on Oct. 1, 2014 when the then No. 15 Lobos topped West Virginia 6-1.
