Men's Basketball Releases Full Schedule

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team has officially released its full 2018-19 schedule, including the non-conference slate, known times and television broadcasts, the department announced Wednesday. Twenty-two of UNM’s 30 games this season will be televised on either CBS Sports Network, AT&T SportsNet or an ESPN channel, including all 18 Mountain West contests.

The non-conference schedule highlights a trio of teams that advanced to the 2018 NCAA Tournament last season, marking a highly-competitive schedule for the Lobos that advanced to the Mountain West Championship game last season and finished just seven points shy of a berth to the Big Dance.

The 2018-19 season also marks the seventh time in the last nine seasons that the Lobos have taken on defending post-season champions as UNM will face 2018 CBI Champion North Texas. See below for full list.*

The Lobos previously released their Mountain West schedule that consists of 18 games, nine of which will be at Dreamstyle Arena – The Pit and all of which will be televised. The non-conference schedule adds 12 games, eight of which will be in front of Lobo fans at The Pit while one will take place in Hobbs, N.M. The 2018-19 schedule currently boasts 17 home contests for Lobo fans to enjoy.

UNM’s non-conference slate continues the annual home-and-home tradition with in-state rival and 2018 NCAA Tournament participant New Mexico State on Saturday, Nov. 17 at Dreamstyle Arena – The Pit on AT&T SportsNet, followed just three games later with the Lobos’ trip to Las Cruces on Tuesday, Dec. 4.

Other exciting non-conference matchups include meetings with UTEP (Nov. 24) at home, Bradley (Dec. 1) on the road as part of the Mountain West – Missouri Valley Challenge, Saint Mary’s (Dec. 7) in Los Angeles at the Basketball Hall of Fame tournament in the STAPLES Center, Colorado (Dec. 11) at home and 2018 NCAA Tournament teams Iona (Nov. 13) and Penn (Dec. 22) in The Pit.

“We are ecstatic about the depth of competition in this schedule. It is exactly what we set out to do when we put it together,” head coach Paul Weir said. “To be able to have this type of competitiveness top to bottom is not just a major challenge for our team but it also presents us ample opportunity to position ourselves for postseason play.

“Taking the Lobos to Hobbs is something we are also incredibly excited about adding this year. We are hoping it can create many meaningful opportunities for both our direct and extended communities.”

The Lobos will kick off the season on the road at CSUN on Nov. 6, followed by the first home game, which will be an exhibition matchup with Northern New Mexico on Nov. 10. The game against Northern New Mexico will be part of the second New Mexico Classic, a tournament aimed at bringing together in-state teams to play in The Pit. More information on the New Mexico Classic to follow as the tournament nears.

Following the exhibition competition, UNM will host its’ regular-season home opener on Nov. 13 against Iona, which fell to No. 2 Duke as the 15-seed team in the NCAA Tournament last season.

UNM will play four straight home games, starting with the exhibition and cruising through Iona, NMSU and UTEP before hitting the road for Illinois to play Bradley, back to The Land of Enchantment to face the Aggies in Las Cruces and then off to Los Angeles to take on Saint Mary’s in the STAPLES Center as part of the 2018 Basketball Hall of Fame Classic.

Following the trio of away/neutral contests, the Lobos will play four more home games against Colorado (Dec. 11), Central Arkansas (Dec. 16), North Texas (Dec. 18) and Penn (Dec. 22) before kicking off the Mountain West slate on Jan. 2 at Air Force on AT&T SportsNet.
