ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — And now it’s time for actual football.  As Aaron Blackwell told the media on Monday, now we get the actually play football.  That’s what the Lobos will be doing on Saturday night at 6 p.m. at Dreamstyle Stadium when the Lobos kickoff the 2018 season by hosting Incarnate Word, an FCS Division I team from San Antonion, Texas.  It will be the first meeting between the two programs.

The game will be streamed on ESPN3 with David Saltzman and Doug Graber on the call.  The game will be available on 770 KKOB/94.5 FM with a free audio stream via golobos.com and the Tune-In Radio App.

Head coach Bob Davie, who is in his seventh year at UNM, will host his weekly media conference at 12:30, and that is available here for viewing. Fans can also watch all UNM press conferences via Facebook Live right here: https://www.facebook.com/NewMexicoLobos

The Lobos are looking to open the season 1-0 for the fourth straight year, and it would mark the first time that’s happened since winning four in row from 1995-98.  The matchup is the first between the two programs.  Amazingly, it’s the fourth straight year that UNM’s opening game opponent has a new coach, as Incarnate Word’s Eric Morris will be in his first game as head coach.

The Season:
The University of New Mexico Lobos will be beginning the seventh year of the Bob Davie era, and the team is coming off a 3-9 season, but they have plenty of momentum heading into the season.  A big recruiting class and three new coaches, highlighted by the hiring of Calvin Magee from Arizona.  Magee is one of the innovators of the spread option offense, which he perfected under Rich Rodriguez.  The Lobos under Bob Davie will be looking for a third bowl appearance in the last four years after two trips to the Gildan New Mexico Bowl in 2015 and 2016, winning it in 2016 against UTSA 23-20.

The Coaches:
The University of New Mexico Lobos are coached by Bob Davie, who is 30-45 in his seventh season with the Lobos, and he is 65-70 overall in his 12th season.  He spent his first five seasons as a head coach manning the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.  After leading the Lobos to back-to-back bowl games in 2015 and 2016, Davie has now been the head coach for five bowl teams, three at Notre Dame and two at New Mexico.

Incarnate Word is coached by Eric Morris, who is in his first season with the Cardinals.  He came to Incarnate Word after serving as the Offensive Coordinator and receivers coach at his alma mater Texas Tech from 2013-17.  He also has coached at Washington State in 2012 and he got started in his coaching career at Houston.Fans can still purchase season tickets by visiting the Dreamstyle Arena Ticket Office, by calling 925-LOBO or going to unmtickets.com.  Single game tickets for all six home games are also on sale now.
