ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — After taking down No. 22 Seattle on Friday night in the 2018 season home opener, The University of New Mexico men’s soccer team will host #24 Washington on Monday night at 7 p.m. at the UNM Soccer Complex.
More Ranked Opponents
The contest will mark the second straight against a ranked opponent to kick off the 2018 campaign. Facing nationally-ranked teams early in the season is a Lobo tradition as Coach Fishbein has led UNM against nationally-ranked opponents within the first three games for the last seven straight seasons.
The Lobos also look to continue a competitive home advantage as UNM is now 20-3-7 at the UNM Soccer Complex since the start of the 2015 season and has not lost in their last six matches at home.
“The mark of Lobo soccer is that we don’t lose at home and our philosophy is we want to schedule the best,” head coach Jeremy Fishbein said after Friday night’s victory. “We’re going to continue to get better and better because we have a lot of young guys playing. These guys are focused, hungry and unified and they love playing for our fans.”
Series History
UNM is 1-4-0 all-time against Washington including a 2-1 loss in last season’s opener against the then-No. 11 team in the nation and a 4-1 defeat in the second round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament in Washington.
The Huskies enter Monday’s matchup 2-0 on the season and have yet to allow a goal, topping Seattle Pacific 5-0 and Maryland 2-0.
Rowland’s Return to Albuquerque
Current Washington Associate Head Coach Jeff Rowland makes another return to Albuquerque on Monday. Rowland ranks third all-time in UNM history in most career points (104) and departed from UNM one of the most decorated Lobos in program history.
