Spangenberg named to C-USA All-Academic Team for second-straight year
IRVING, Texas – Senior midfielder Simon Spangenberg had been named to the 2018 InTouch Credit Union Conference USA Men’s Soccer All-Academic Team as it was announced by the league office on Monday.

For Spangenberg, this is the second-straight year in which he has been honored on the C-USA All-Academic Team. A native of Brussels, Belgium is currently a double major in computer science and applied mathematics. Additionally, Spangenberg is minoring in psychology. Despite the heavy academic workload, Spangenberg excels in the classroom with a GPA of 4.2.
Earlier this year, Spangenberg was a Top-30 candidate for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award for Men’s Soccer for his notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character, and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Additionally, Spangenberg was a CoSIDA Academic All-America® Second Team selection last year and has also received multiple Conference-USA academic honors including several C-USA Academic Medals, and C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll accolades.
For his career, Spangenberg has played in 61 games, made 28 starts and logged 2,447 minutes. He has four career goals and two assists with two of the goals coming in his senior season.
