ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team is set to hit the road for a three-game road stint, set to kick off at Bradley on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. MT / 7 p.m. CT. The game is part of the ongoing Mountain West / Missouri Valley Challenge.
Saturday’s game will be available to watch on ESPN+.
In 2017, for the second consecutive season, the Mountain West and Missouri Valley split the 10-game series, 5-5. The MW has an all-time series edge of 3-1-3 in seven previous Challenge seasons. The 2018 edition of the Challenge Series is the eighth.
The Lobos enter Saturday’s game 3-1 on the season, Bradley enters with a 6-2 record including victories over SMU and Penn State. UNM enters the matchup coming off of a come-from-behind victory over UTEP at home in Dreamstyle Arena – The Pit on Saturday while Bradley enters coming off of just its second loss in eight games, an 85-73 loss to IUPUI on Wednesday.
The game marks the first of three straight games on the road, followed by New Mexico State (Dec. 4) and Saint Mary’s (Dec. 7).
During halftime of Saturday’s contest, current UNM assistant coach Jerome Robinson, a Bradley alum, will be inducted into the Bradley University Hall of Fame.
SERIES HISTORY
Saturday’s game marks just the third meeting between the Lobos and the Braves in program history. The last time the two teams met, they faced off at Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y. on March 21, 1964. Bradley claimed the victory in that matchup, 86-54. The first meeting was on Dec. 19, 1938 in Albuquerque in which the Braves earned a 55-35 win.
THE COACHES
Head coach Paul Weir earned his 50th career victory with Saturday’s win against UTEP. His all-time record as a head coach now stands at 50-22, 22-16 at the helm of the Lobos in his second season at UNM. Bradley head coach Brian Wardle is in his fourth season with the Braves. He posts a 133-126 overall record and is 44-62 with Bradley.
