ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team looks to extend its opening win streak to three as it takes on New Mexico State in the Battle of the Rio Grande Rivalry on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 4 p.m. at Dreamstyle Arena – The Pit.

UNM will be celebrating Nike N7 and American Indian Night on Saturday to honor Native American Heritage Month. The Lobos will be playing in this year’s new custom turquoise uniforms. The color turquoise represents harmony, friendship and fellowship in Native American culture. The special jersey auction will be held on the north concourse with proceeds benefiting the NB3 Foundation and UNM American Indian Student Services.

The Lobos are proud to continue their partnership with Nike N7 as part of a celebration and recognition of American Indian Heritage Month in November. Nike N7 is a long-time commitment and mission to inspire and enable two million Native American and Aboriginal youth in North America to participate in sport and physical activity.

The Lobos are entering Saturday’s contest 2-0 on the season with victories over CSUN and Iona. Six Lobos are averaging scoring in double figures including junior Corey Manigault (18.0), junior Anthony Mathis (13.0), redshirt-sophomore Vance Jackson (12.5), sophomore Makuach Maluach (10.5), senior Dane Kuiper (10.0) and redshirt-sophomore Keith McGee (10.0).

Mountain West Preseason Newcomer of the Year Jackson is also averaging a double-double with 12.5 points and 10.0 rebounds.

NMSU started its season 2-0 but the streak was halted with a 73-58 loss to Saint Mary’s at home in Las Cruces on Wednesday night. Saturday’s contest will mark the Aggies’ first of the season on the road.

SERIES HISTORY
The Aggies are one of UNM’s longest opponents dating back to the first game in the series history on Dec. 22, 1904 (a 21-9 win for UNM in Las Cruces).
