Jones Among Manning Award Stars of the Week
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — When Lobo Football has been around since 1893, and you become the first person in the history of the program to do something, it’s nice to get noticed. Sheriron Jones certainly is getting noticed.
Jones, who became the first player in school history with four touchdown passes in back-to-back games, was named one of eight quarterbacks to the Manning Award’s Stars of the Week list, and now Jones is up for national honors. Fans can vote for Jones by clicking the following link, which will send fans to the Manning Award Facebook page. From there, just like Jones’ picture to vote for him for the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week. Voting for the award closes on Thursday at 10 a.m. Mountain Time.
Jones was looking to become the first Lobo quarterback to earn Mountain West Player of the Week honors in 11 years, but he lost out to Utah State’s Jordan Love. However, Jones’ four touchdowns, 13-for-20 day with 250 yards and nine rushes for 72 yards didn’t escape in leading UNM to a commanding 50-14 road win didn’t escape the eyes of the Manning Award. Along with Jones, the only other Group of Five quarterback to make the list this week was Temple’s Anthony Russo. Jones’ QBR was 98.5, which trailed only Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa for the week.
