ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s basketball program announces the second annual New Mexico Classic set to take place Nov. 9-10 at the Rudy Davalos Basketball Center and Dreamstyle Arena – The Pit. This year’s tournament features New Mexico squads as well as Fort Lewis returning from last year’s event.
During the tournament, the Lobos will take on Northern New Mexico for the second straight year in exhibition play. Last season, the Lobos boasted a record-breaking performance in the contest. With their 147-76 win over the Eagles, the Lobos shattered the UNM record for points scored in a game (136). Furthermore, the Lobos also tied the nearly 46-year-old record for largest victory margin in program history, which occurred on December 29, 1972 against Dartmouth at The Pit (71 points).
Teams returning for this year’s neutral competition are Eastern New Mexico, Fort Lewis College, New Mexico Highlands University and Western New Mexico. Day one of the tournament will take place in the Rudy Davalos Basketball Center while day two will see all six teams in Dreamstyle Arena – The Pit.
Tickets for games on Friday, Nov. 9 in the Rudy Davalos Basketball Center will be free to fans. Tickets for Saturday, Nov. 10 games will be $10 and include a ticket that gets fans into both neutral games along with the Lobo men’s basketball game. Fans must keep their tickets as the same ticket will be scanned for both the neutral games, and the Lobo game.

Eastern New Mexico is located in Portales, New Mexico and is an NCAA affiliate in the Lone Star Conference. Third-year head coach Tres Segler will be leading the team this season. This will be the second year that the Hounds visit the Dreamstyle Arena for the New Mexico Classic.
Western New Mexico is also a part of the Lone Star Conference. The Mustangs are located in Silver City, New Mexico. The team will be led by senior guard Willie McCray who was named to the Lone Star Conference All-Conference team in the 2017-18 season. This will be the third season for head coach Matt Enriquez.
New Mexico Highlands is located in Las Vegas, New Mexico and is a member institution of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. After a winning season in 2017-18 (15-13), the Cowboys make their way back to Dreamstyle Arena – the Pit. Former Lobo assistant coach, Craig Snow, will be entering his fifth season with Highlands.
Fort Lewis College, located in Durango, Colo., is also representative of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Skyhawks are led by head coach Bob Pietrack who will be entering his fourth season in 2018-19. The team made it to the quarterfinal round in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Division South Central Region Tournament last season.
