Men’s Golf Finishes 14th in Georgia

ALPHARETTA, Ga. — The University of New Mexico men’s golf team wrapped up play at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational on Sunday. The squad finished the tournament in 14th place after facing a strong field of competition.

The Lobos shot a third-round score of eight over, 296 to round out their combined total of 890 (+26) in the tournament. The team tied with Clemson for the most pars in the competition after registering 177 over the weekend. New Mexico trailed 13th-place TCU by just two strokes and 12th-place East Tennessee State by seven. 

Freshman Ignacio Arcaya’s three-round total of 222 (+6) put him ahead of his teammates on the leaderboard as he landed in a tie for 51st after improving 11 spots over the weekend. Sophomore Galven Green came in just one stroke behind as he shot a 223 (+7), finishing in a tie for 56th. Coming in two strokes behind, freshman Sam Choi posted a combined total of 225 (+9) as he improved four spots throughout the tournament.

Senior Augustin Holé finished up the tournament with a score of 12 over, 228 after posting eight birdies, tying for team best with Choi. Senior Sean Carlon shot a low third round score of two over, 74 to produce a three-round score of 230 (+14).

Clinching first place in the tournament was Southern California which posted a 22 under, 842 on the weekend after jumping up two spots on the leaderboard. Coming in a close second was Clemson at 21 under, 843, followed by host Georgia Tech which posted an 845 (-19). 

The Lobos return to action in 2019 as they head to the Arizona Intercollegiate hosted by Arizona on January 28-29 in Tucson.
