New Mexico Improves at Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate

ALPHARETTA, Ga. — The University of New Mexico men’s golf team improved a spot on the leaderboard during round two of the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational hosted by Georgia Tech on Saturday. The Lobos, who finished round one in 14th place, are now in a tie for 13th after chopping 14 strokes off of their first-round score in the second round of play.

After a tough first-round score of 304 (+16) against a deep field including Clemson, Alabama, Duke, Stanford, Virginia, UCLA, Florida State, TCU and more, New Mexico showed outstanding improvement in round-two as they shot just two over, 290. As a team, the Lobos have posted a two-round score of 594 (+18), landing them in a tie with East Tennessee State. The squad posted a combined total of 10 birdies in the round, five of which can be credited to senior Augustin Holé

Holé shot a second-round total of one over, 73, shaving off two strokes from round one. He finished just one stroke behind freshman Ignacio Arcaya who shot an even par (72), improving six strokes from day one. Freshman Sam Choi led the Lobos in the round after an outstanding 10-stroke improvement from his first-round total as he posted a score of one under, 71 on the day. 

Sophomore Galven Green registered three birdies in the round as he shot a two over, 74 and is ahead for New Mexico on the leaderboard in a tie for 40th place. Senior Sean Carlon improved in round two as he shaved two strokes off his first-round score and posted a second-round total of 77 (+5).

Ending the day in first place after two rounds is Clemson which holds a combined total of 20 under, 556. Wake Forest trails by just one stroke at 19 under, 557, followed by Southern California which is sitting at 558 (-18). Host Georgia Tech is in fourth place after round two, dropping three spots on the leaderboard after finishing the first round in first place. 

The Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational will wrap up with round three on Sunday, October 21 beginning at 8:30 a.m.
