Green Paces the Lobos Through Round One in Georgia

ALPHARETTA, Ga. — The University of New Mexico men’s golf team finished round one of play at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational hosted by Georgia Tech. Sophomore Galven Green lead the way for the Lobos as he shot an even par at the 7,017-yard, par-72 course in Alpharetta, Ga.

ROUND 1 RESULTS

Green posted a trio of birdies in round one to end the round with an even score of 72, tying for 30th. Two of those birdies were recorded on back-to-back on holes, 18 and 1, followed by an eight-par streak to finish the round. Three strokes behind was senior Augustin Holé who shot a 75 (+3) and registered 15 pars on the day, just one shy of the tournament leader (16). 

Freshman Ignacio Arcaya  shot a six over, 78 in the round while teammate  and senior Sean Carlon came in just one stroke behind at 79 (+7). Both Arcaya and Carlon registered 10 pars in the first round of action. Freshman Sam Choi rounded out the team score as he shot 9 over, 81 and recorded two birdies on the day. 

As a team, New Mexico shot a 304 (+16) and ended round one in 14th place. The squad trails 13th-place East Tennessee State by just two strokes (302) and 12th place TCU by four strokes (300).

Host Georgia Tech is in the lead after round one after shooting 18 under, 270, and is sitting six strokes ahead of second-place Clemson which shot 276 (-12). Four teams ended the day in a tie for fifth place after shooting a 286 (-2), while fourth-place Southern California finished up eight strokes ahead with a score of ten under, 278.

The action continues on Saturday, October 20 with round two teeing off at 8:30 a.m. followed by round three on Sunday.
