Men’s Golf Heads to Georgia

ALPHARETTA, GA. — The University of New Mexico men’s golf team is set to compete at the 13th annual Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational this Friday, October 19 through Sunday, October 24. The tournament, hosted by Georgia Tech, will take place at the 7,017-yard, par-72 Lakeside Couse in Alpharetta, Ga.

The event consists of a strong field of 14 squads including Alabama, Clemson, Duke, East Tennessee State, Florida State, Georgia Tech, New Mexico, Stanford, Texas A&M, TCU, UCLA, USC, Virginia, and Wake Forest. Of the 14 teams, 12 made an appearance at the 2018 NCAA Championship earlier this year.

This year’s Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate invitational returns five former champions including Georgia Tech, Clemson, Southern California, UCLA and Wake Forest. The Lobos will be making their first appearance at the 54-hole event.

UNM enters the tournament following a fifth-place finish at the Maridoe Intercollegiate on October 6-8. Freshman Sam Choi lead UNM in the contest after posting a 13 over, 223 and landing in a tie for 18th overall. Two strokes behind and tied for 24th was Galven Green and Ignacio Arcaya who both shot a three-round score of 225 (+15). New Mexico jumped up six spots over the course of the tournament to give them their second top-five finish of the season. 

Round one of the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational will tee off on Friday, October 19 at 8:30 a.m. followed by round two on Saturday and round three on Sunday.
