DALLAS, Texas — Sophomore Galven Green and sophomore Sean Carlon of The University of New Mexico men’s golf team lead the Lobos after the second round of play on Monday at the Trinity Forest Invitational hosted by SMU. The pair is tied for seventh and 10th place, respectively, leading seventh-place UNM heading into the third round on Tuesday.
TRINITY FOREST INVITATIONAL RESULTS – ROUND 2
Green and Carlon each finished the first day’s round in the 60s, Green with a 68, Carlon with a 69, and each added a stroke or two to finish at 70 for round two, putting Green tied for seventh at -4 (138) and Carlon tied for 10th with a -3 (139). Both Green and Carlon also lead UNM in birdies at nine and eight, respectively. Both posted five on day one, followed by four for Green and three for Carlon in round two.
“It wasn’t bad today, but it wasn’t great either,” head coach Glen Millican said. “Everyone played pretty well, but we made a few mistakes midway through the back nine that cost us. We did, however, play the last few holes well and finished solid.”
Freshman Sam Choi and redshirt sophomore Ross Sinclair are tied for third for UNM, tied for 30th overall. Choi shot a 74 in round one but rebounded in round two, shaving off five strokes to finish at 69 on Monday for a total of 143 (+1). Sinclair registered a 68 in round one, but carded a 75 in round two (143, +1).
Redshirt-junior Mark MacGrath finished out the top five for the Lobos, cutting four strokes off his game for a second-round score of 74 on Monday (152, +10). MacGrath is still the only Lobo to register an eagle on the tournament as he notched one in round one.
The Lobos are set to return to action for the third and final day of the Trinity Forest Invitational on Tuesday.
