The tournament starts Friday at noon for warm ups and begins with doubles at 1 pm. Next is an early morning on Saturday for doubles at 9 am followed by singles right after. Wrapping it all up for the Championship on Sunday; doubles starting at 9 am and singles to finish it.
The tournament has two main draws for singles, the Crimson Draw and the White Draw, and UNM will have three competitors in the Crimson Draw and one in the White Draw.
Ruth Copas, the only senior and upperclassman on the squad, will take on Neus Torregrosa on New Mexico State in the top half of the bracket. UNM’s Yue Lin “Polly” Chen is also in the top half of the bracket, facing Vanessa Valdez of UTEP. In the bottom half of the bracket, Natasha Munday will face Bhargavi Kalaga of New Mexico State.
Maddie Chavez is in the White Draw as UNM’s only competitor, and she will open with Chloe Gavino of New Mexico State. The only doubles pairing for the Lobos is Chen and Munday, who will play against UT-Permian Basin’s Madison Hoelting and Julia Ramalho.
Women’s opened strong against Air Force last weekend, opening with a 7-3 mark in singles and 3-1 in doubles to kick off the season. Chen, one of six sophomores on the team, won the Bravo singles and doubles flights at the Bedford Cup hosted by Air Force last weekend.
“This will be another good tournament for us to see how we are progressing,” said head coach Stephanie Wooten-Quijada. “I thought we had good results last week, and I was really excited about the way Polly played. I’m excited for the weekend.”
Unfortunately, there will be no live stats or video hosted by NM State, but the Lobos twitter will be live and active for you to follow along. Make sure to stay in touch and updated @UNMLoboWTennis.
Two weeks after the Aggie Invitational, the Lobos will travel to ITA Regionals in Las Vegas, Nevada. UNM’s Fall season will end with the UNM Halloween Invitational October 26-28.
