“Overall I think it was a good start to the year for us. We didn’t play as well this morning but came back with a really good afternoon round which is something really good for the coaches to see this early in the year,” head coach Glen Millican said. “It’s also really great for the guys to see for themselves, that they can keep it together and stay in position for a good finish tomorrow.”
Sinclair posts a total of 143 heading into the third round on Monday, just one over par. He jumped up the leader board, tied for 22nd after round one to tied for 12th after round two and is followed closely by freshman Sam Choi and senior Sean Carlon, both with 145 and tied for 22nd. Choi, who started off his first round carding a 75, finished round two -1 with a score of 70 while Carlon kicked off the first round of 2018-19 with a 72 (+1) before taking a 73 (+2) in round two.
“Sam Choi started off his first event for UNM kind of rough going five over through the first 18, but then finished three over after two rounds to really bounce back,” Millican said. “That’s really great to see from a freshman.”
Teams in the lead include No. 3 Oklahoma and No. 10 Texas, tied for first with a total team score of 569 (+1), followed by Iowa in third with 574 (+6). The Lobos are 10th with a score of 582 (+14) heading into round three.

The top individual of the Gopher Invitational is Wiliam Buhl of Arkansas who posted a 136 (69/67) after two rounds to finish -6 on the day.
In the Pioneer Creek Collegiate, Holé’s -4, fourth-place finish led the Lobos followed by freshman Roy Choi who finished tied for seventh overall with a final score of 215 (-1). Choi went 71, 73, 71 over the three rounds. Holé shot a 74 in round one before shaving off six strokes in round two with a 68. He finished off the tournament with a 70 in round three.
The third Lobo to compete in the Pioneer Creek Collegiate was freshman Ignacio Arcaya who finished tied for 22nd with a final score of 221 (+5) and a low round of 72 for par.
“All three of our individuals played well,” Millican said. “Augustin played great today, Roy finished in the top 10, one under for his first tournament, Ignacio was solid. It was a good start for the freshmen this weekend and overall everyone did really well.”
UNM will finish the Gopher Invitational with round three on Monday, Sept. 9 and will hit the road for one more tournament on Sept. 23-25 at SMU before returning home to host the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate on Friday, Sept. 28-29.
