The Lobos will face stiff competition as four of the sixteen teams participating in the Gopher Invitational competed in the 2017 NCAA Championships last year, three of which are ranked in the top 17 of the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) preseason rankings. Currently ranked teams include No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 10 Texas and No. 17 Arkansas while NC State also competed in the NCAA Championships last season.

There will be eight returning players this season from last year’s roster of thirteen, including senior Sean Carlon who was the second-lowest scorer in 2017-18. Other returning players that were top-five average scorers last season include junior Galven Green and senior Augustin Holé.

Carlon and Green are expected to compete for the Lobos at the Gopher Invitational along with redshirt-sophomore Ross Sinclair, freshman Sam Choi and junior Sam Dickey

Choi is one of five new freshman to be added to the 2018-19 roster and was the youngest champion of the Southern California Amateur Stroke Play in the event’s 118 year history.

The first half of UNM’s season will include five tournaments, which will take the Lobos to the University of Minnesota, SMU, The University of North Texas, and Georgia Tech. The Lobos will also host the annual William H. Tucker Intercollegiate on Sept. 28-29 in Albuquerque.

The second half of the season kicks off on Jan. 28, 2019 at the University of Arizona for the Arizona Intercollegiate tournament at the Sewailo Golf Course. The Lobos will also be traveling to tournaments at the University of Hawaii, San Diego State, Texas A&M, Brigham Young and Omni Tuscan National Golf Course in Arizona for the National Invitational.
