ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Head coach Paul Weir and The University of New Mexico men’s basketball program announce the official addition of Zane Martin to the 2018-19 roster. Martin was announced as signing with the Lobos in July, but has officially completed requirements to be added to the roster.

“Zane had some requirements to finish up at Towson. Those have just been completed and he has been officially admitted to UNM,” head coach Paul Weir said. “We look forward to helping him develop for the 2019-20 season.”

Due to NCAA transfer rules, Martin is still required to sit out the upcoming season, but he will be eligible to play in 2019-20.

Martin led Towson with a team-best 19.8 points per game last season, was named MVP of the Basketball Hall of Fame Belfast Classic and earned All-CAA and NABC All-District 10 Second Team honors. He scored in double figures in 30 of the Tigers’ 32 games last season and averaged 3.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.

He earned CAA Player of the Week honors as a sophomore last season after becoming the first Towson player to record consecutive games of 30 or more points since 2007 that included a 35-point performance against William & Mary on Jan. 25. He followed that game up by scoring 30 of his 32 points against Elon in the second half, becoming the only player in Towson men’s basketball history to score at least 30 points in a single half. He also posted a career-best 36 points against Hofstra, marking a sophomore school record.

He finished his sophomore season with 635 points, seventh all-time in Towson history in single-season scoring, after posting 18 20-point outings, three games of 30 or more points and a 21-game streak in which he scored in double figures.
