Lobos Picked Fifth in MW Preseason Coaches Poll

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of New Mexico Lobos finished third in the Mountain West last season, and lost in the championship match of the conference tournament.  Despite that, the Lobos were picked fifth in the preseason Mountain West poll, as voted on by the Conference’s 12 head coaches.
 
San Diego State was picked to finish first with 112 points and four first place votes while the 2017 MW regular season champs, San José State, were a close second with 111 points and five first place votes. Boise State earned two first place nods coming in third at 99 overall tallies. UNLV came in fourth with 83 points, followed by New Mexico with 80.
 
Fresno State is predicted to finish sixth with 65 points and earned one first place vote. Utah State (64), Wyoming (51), Air Force (47) and Colorado College (42) are right behind the Bulldogs in seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth places. To round out the poll, the final two slots are occupied by Colorado state (26) in 11th place and Nevada in 12th place with 12 points.
 
The Lobos are in action with a home exhibition game on Tuesday, August 14 at 7:30 p.m. against CSU Pueblo. The 2018 regular season begins Friday, August 17 at Texas Tech, and that game will be free for all fans that head to Lubbock.
