UNM SERIES NOTES | SDSU SERIES NOTES

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico softball team is set to host its final home series of the season Friday, May 4 through Sunday, May 6 against San Diego State. As is customary with home-stand finales, the Lobos will be honoring seniors Chelsea Johnson and Krissy Fortner following Saturday’s Senior Day WHITEOUT contest, set to begin at 12 p.m. Friday’s game will begin at 6 pm., Sunday at 12 p.m.

Fans are encouraged to wear white on Saturday to match the Lobos’ all-white uniform in honor of Senior Day. The following promos will also be in effect on Saturday:

All three games will be available to watch live on the Mountain West Network, however, due to both softball and baseball being broadcast simultaneously, some games will broadcast with one camera while others will be run with the standard multi-camera broadcast.

The Lobos (12-35, 5-13 MW) will take on the seventh-ranked team in the conference, SDSU (16-29, 7-11 MW). The Lobos are 19-49 all-time against the Aztecs. 

SERIES HISTORY
Last season the Lobos dropped all three contests against the Aztecs on the road. The first contest was a narrow 4-1 loss before UNM was downed 10-2 in five innings and 8-0 in six. Last time the squads played in Albuquerque, the Lobos went 1-2 in the wild series. UNM lost game one 23-4 in five innings, game two 2-1 and came back for a win in game three, 3-2, in 10 innings. 

LAST TIME OUT
-Despite finishing last week 0-4, the Lobos had an impressive week, falling to #10 Arizona by just two runs, 3-1. Two of the Wildcats’ runs scored on error after a misplay in the field on the third out allowed a runner on base in the bottom of the second. The unearned runner scored when the next batter hit a homerun.
-The Lobos also had a good showing against the second-ranked team in the Mountain West, San José State on the weekend. Despite dropping all three games, UNM allowed just six earned runs over three games and outhit the Spartans in two games. In the final two contests at SJSU, UNM’s defense allowed just three hits in each.
-On the week, UNM allowed just seven earned runs and limited its opponent to four hits or less in three out of the four outings – including against #10 Arizona.
-The Lobos also outhit their opponents in three out of the four games on the week.

LOBO PITCHING – ON THE RISE
-The Lobo pitchers performed well this past week as sophomore Jensen Main finished the week with a 2.33 ERA, allowing just 16 hits over three complete games. 
-Senior Krissy Fortner also had a stellar outing with a near-victory on Saturday against SJSU. She posted a 1.11 ERA in her first complete game of the season and nearly her second career shutout as the Lobos led 1-0 until a two-run SJSU homer in the bottom of the seventh.

SENIOR DAY
-Saturday afternoon’s contest will mark our SENIOR DAY celebration, honoring seniors Chelsea Johnson and Krissy Fortner. The Senior Day ceremony will take place at the conclusion of game two.
-The pair of seniors are extremely decorated and both have made their marks in the UNM record book. Johnson is currently ranked fourth in program history with 31 homeruns while Fortner holds the top three spots for most saves in a single season. She also holds the Lobo record for most saves in a career with 15.

LOBO STAT LEADERS
Senior Chelsea Johnson is currently leading the Lobos with a .324 batting average. She posts a team-high 45 hits on a team-most seven homeruns, seven doubles and one triple, tallying a team-best 32 RBI.
Freshman Andrea Howard follows Johnson with a .299 average. She boasts the second-highest homerun total with six and has also hit five doubles and a triple. 

RECORD WATCH
-Senior Chelsea Johnson currently ranks 4th in program history in career homeruns with 31. The record is 39.
-Johnson also ties for fourth in program history in RBI with 131. She is just one away from third and the overall record is 152.
-Johnson is eighth in Lobo history in total bases (290).
-Senior Krissy Fortner ranks 4th in UNM history in appearances with 109 and also holds the Lobo record for most career saves at 15.
-Sophomore Cameryn O’Grady is currently tied for 7th in Lobo history with 30 walks in a single season.
