ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team has officially signed high school senior Tavian Percy, the program announced Wednesday. Percy has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Lobos and will join the program as a true freshman for the 2018-19 season.

Percy, a 6-foot-6 combo guard originally from Miami, Fla., averaged 15 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals per game in his senior season at Pasadena High School in Pasadena, Calif. Percy was also a Second Team All-Area selection.

“Tavian is a 17-year-old prospect who is not even close to reaching his full potential,” head coach Paul Weir said. “We love his academic profile, his length, shooting ability and tremendous upside as a player. He knows our roster is experienced, but is willing to come and develop in our system. We look forward to his long-term success as a Lobo.”

Percy, who came to Albuquerque for an official visit this past week, also competed for Compton Magic AAU program. Prior to his time at Pasadena High in California, Percy competed at Oldsmar Christian School in Oldsmar, Fla. where he helped his team to the 2016-17 SIAA State Championship his junior year. He also helped his 16U team to the Hoopseen Team Knight Championship.

“When I came on my visit to UNM, I knew it was the place I wanted to be,” Percy said. “Once I got to see the facilities and The Pit, I knew I was going to be a Lobo!”

Percy is slated to graduate from Pasadena High School this spring and will join the Lobos this season, 2018-19. Percy will have four years of eligibility.
