RANCHO MIRAGE, C.A. — Day one of the Mountain West Conference Tournament is in the books and the Lobos are currently tied for third place on the leaderboard. Only 11-strokes separates New Mexico from currently tournament leader, UNLV. The Rebels lead the field as a team and their very own Mackenzie Raim is the current individual tournament leader.

“We were fairly steady most of the round,” said head coach Jill Trujillo

Senior Ingrid Gutierrez is currently tied for second place among the field after earning 1-under 71 after the first round. Gutierrez is in her last season with the Lobos and has fielded for the Lobos at every tournament during this 2017-18 season. It’s evident that her experience and expansive knowledge of this course is helping her overtake this competitive field after day one. Fellow senior, Alexandra Moisand, is also showing well for the Lobos after her first round score of 2-over 74 which places her in the top-15. Moisand also has participated in every tournament for the Lobos this season and her wisdom and leadership has been a huge asset to the team’s successes this year.

Junior Darian Zachek has been the standout this 2017-18 season for the Lobos and has hopes to climb up the leaderboard these next two days in California. Currently, Zachek is in the top-25 after totaling her first round score of 4-over 76. Not far behind Zachek is both sophomore, Reva Morris, and freshman, Caroline Jansson. Morris and Jansson both closed out the first round with the same score of 5-over 77 at the Mountain West Conference Championship.

“We had a few mental mistakes overall,” mentioned Trujillo. “However, Ingrid hung tough and we’re excited to see how day two goes tomorrow.”

The Lobos will be starting at 8:30 a.m. [PT] and Jansson will be teeing off first for New Mexico.
