Lobos Travel for Single Game at UTEP

GAME NOTES

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico softball team is set to play a single non-conference matchup on Monday in El Paso at UTEP. The Lobos will take on the Miners at 3 p.m. MT and the game will be available to follow via live stats and via live video online for a fee.

The Lobos (11-28, 4-7 MW) are coming off of a bye week after playing a three-game series in Fort Collins against Colorado State. UNM claimed the first of the three-game set by a score of 5-3 in 10 innings.

The Miners (17-26, 7-11 CUSA) will play for the third straight day on Monday after finishing up a three-game series with North Texas on Sunday afternoon at home. UTEP earned a pair of wins in a doubleheader on Saturday 11-8 and 11-5 before claiming Sunday’s game by a narrow score of 4-3.

UNM took on UTEP in just the eighth game of the season this year at the UNLV Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. UNM fell 8-0 in five innings. Prior to that meeting, UNM hosted UTEP for a pair of contests last season on March 8 which the squads split. The Lobos won 7-6 before UTEP turned around and claimed a 7-4 victory in game two of the doubleheader. 

LAST TIME OUT
The Lobos earned a 10-inning victory in game one of their last three-game series against Colorado State in Fort Collins. UNM won 5-3 after tallying a two-run top of the seventh inning to tie the score at 3-3. Sophomore Cameryn O’Grady notched a 2RBI double down the left line to tie it up before a Chelsea Johnson double and a Monica Salas single drove in a pair of runs in the top of the 10th for the win.

After the win, the Lobos dropped the next two contests 8-0 in six innings and 12-4 in five. 

LOBO STAT LEADERS
Senior Chelsea Johnson is currently leading the Lobos with a .353 batting average. She posts a team-high 41 hits on a team-most seven homeruns, six doubles and one triple, tallying a team-best 32 RBI.
Sophomore Cameryn O’Grady follows with a .324 average. She has blasted nine doubles, two triples and two homeruns so far this season. O’Grady also leads the Lobos in stolen bases, 4-4.
Freshman Andrea Howard follows Johnson in homeruns with six and has also hit four doubles and a triple for her .303 average.  

ONE PER SERIES
Since the Lobos began conference play on March 16, UNM has gone 5-9 including a 4-8 mark in conference play. 

Included in those five wins is at least one win in each series the Lobos have played. UNM pulled off a 5-2 victory in game one over UNLV, a 13-4 win in six innings over NMSU, a 7-6 win over Nevada in game two of a doubleheader, and a 4-3 game one win over Fresno State.

The Lobos continued the tradition in their latest series at Colorado State, taking game one 5-3 in 10 innings in a Saturday doubleheader. 

RECORD WATCH
-Senior Chelsea Johnson currently ranks 4th in program history in career homeruns with 31. The record is 39.
Johnson also ties for fourth in program history in RBI with 131. She is just one away from third and the overall record is 152.
-Johnson is ninth in Lobo history in total bases (285).
-Senior Krissy Fortner ranks 4th in UNM history in appearances with 107.
-Sophomore Cameryn O’Grady is just one walk away from inching into the record book for most walks earned in a single season. She currently has 27 while 28 would tie for 10th in program history.
