RANCHO MIRAGE, C.A. — It’s conference tournament time for the women’s golf team and after having a pretty successful regular season, the team is prepared and ready to take on anything that’s coming their way.

“Our conference championship is an exciting time because it’s anybody’s game,” said head coach Jill Trujillo.

The Lobos will be heading back to the Dinah Shore Tournament Course for the Mountain West Conference Tournament and the team is expecting the course to be in amazing condition because the LPGA’s Ana Inspiration tournament was just held there two weeks before. The entire team is excited to be playing on the same course that some of their favorite golfers were just on a couple weeks ago, it’s the best way to cap off the regular season for the Lobos.

“We have a lot of experience on that golf course and can take it low,” said Trujillo when asked about how she thinks the team will be able to handle the course.

Leading the field for the Lobos are seniors, Ingrid Gutierrez and Alexandra Moisand. These two seniors have added a tremendous amount of experience and wisdom to the roster this 2017-18 season and both are expected to have strong showings at their last conference tournament in their collegiate careers.

“Our seniors are great leaders,” said Trujillo. “Alex and Ingrid have a great future ahead of them in whatever course in life they take.”

On Monday, April 16th the course that these two will be taking on is also housing some steep competition amongst the field. New Mexico is currently ranked 64th according to Golfstat’s top-100 rankings for Division 1 women’s collegiate teams and currently, there are only three Mountain West teams ahead of them. UNLV [41] and San Diego State [48] are holding strong in the top-50 of the country and San Jose State [58] sits only six places ahead of UNM.

New Mexico is hoping that they can add another conference tournament title to the record books. UNM is currently the only team in the Mountain West to win the conference tournament title league-best of eight times.

The Lobos will be starting conference play on Monday, April 16th at 7:00 a.m. [PT] with freshman Caroline Jansson taking the first tee-time.
