Lobos Compete in One-Meter Dive at NCAA Diving Zone

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The University of New Mexico women’s diving team opened up the 2018 NCAA Zone E Diving Championships on Monday with the one-meter dive.

The Lobos were represented by junior Allyson Concepcion, sophomore Natasha Dark and freshman Hannah Tiendas. 59 divers competed in the event, with 18 advancing to the finals from the preliminaries.

Dark led UNM, finishing in 34th place with a final score of 235.15. Tiendas followed, taking 41st place after posting a final score of 221.25. Finally, Concepcion rounded out the three Lobos with a score of 203.80, good for 52nd place.

“I’m very proud of sophomore Natasha Dark and freshman Hannah Tiendas,” said head diving coach Julie Weddle. “They both started off a bit rough, but they fought their way back throughout the event and finished strong, and now we are looking forward to competing in the three-meter dive tomorrow.”

Nevada’s Sharae Zheng, who was the 2018 Mountain West Championship’s Diver of the Meet, won the event after posting a preliminary score of 329.15 and a final score of 647.35.

The 2018 NCAA Zone E Diving Championships will continue on Tuesday as Concepcion, Dark and Tiendas compete in the three-meter dive. Preliminaries will take place at 11:00 a.m. MT and finals will begin at 2:35 p.m.
