MacDougall and Simmons to Transfer
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Senior Connor MacDougall and junior Jachai Simmons of The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team will transfer from UNM prior to next season, the program announced Tuesday. Both have been granted release by head coach Paul Weir.
MacDougall, who sat out in 2017-18 after suffering an ankle/foot injury in the Lobos’ exhibition game against BYU on October 27, will look to graduate at the conclusion of the Spring 2018 semester. He will be a graduate transfer. MacDougall competed for the Lobos in just one season, 2016-17, in which he appeared in 27 games averaging 4.0 points and 1.9 rebounds per game.
“We wish nothing but the best in the next chapter of Connor’s journey,” Weir said. “His graduation from The University of New Mexico is an amazing accomplishment and I hope it is just the beginning of a terrific future ahead.”
Simmons, who joined the Lobos this season after committing to Coach Weir prior to his arrival at UNM, will transfer prior to next season and will have one year of eligibility remaining. Simmons appeared in 25 games this past season, starting in 10, and sat out the final six games of the season due to personal reasons. He averaged 3.4 points and 1.6 rebounds per game.
“Jachai has had a challenging past few months,” Weir said. “We both agreed a fresh start would be in his best interests and we will support him every which way we can in that endeavor.”
