TEMPE, Ariz. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team ended their regular season at the annual PING/ASU Invitational this weekend and totaled a team score of 40-over 904 [305,299,300].

“Our team performance was lacking all weekend,” said head coach Jill Trujillo.

Overall the Lobos had a tough time amongst this competitive field. The tournament leader, Arizona, was one of the team’s that ended in the top-20 last year in the NCAA tournament. Previous NCAA champions, Arizona State also finished in the top-5 for the tournament as well as Oklahoma State, another top-20 finisher in the NCAAs. New Mexico kept their heads up throughout these three rounds and they kept working towards pushing themselves up the leaderboard.

Senior Ingrid Gutierrez led the charge for the Lobos after earning a top-20 finish after carding 2-over 218 [74,73,71] in Tempe. Gutierrez has always had a strong showing for UNM and as the team starts to prepare for the Mountain West Conference Tournament, her experience will be critical to the team’s success.

Also fielding for the Lobos and previous Mountain West Golfer of the week, was junior Darian Zachek who also struggled to find her stride in Tempe and carded a total of 10-over 226 [75,76,75]. Zachek has had a few strong showings this spring season for the Lobos but she had a difficult time amongst the field. Following Zachek was senior, Alexandra Moisand who totaled a final score of 13-over 229 [78,75,76]. Moisand has been staying in the middle of the pack this season but her leadership and experience has added a lot to the roster this year.

Freshman Caroline Jansson ended her three rounds with a total score of 16-over 232 [78,76,78] and fellow teammate, sophomore Reva Morris carded the same score of 16-over 232 [78,75,79]. Both Jansson and Morris will be closing out on their first season with the Lobos and the program has high hopes for what they will bring in the future. The individual fielding for New Mexico was junior, Emma Edwards who earned a total score of 22-over 238 [81,76,81].

“We have a couple weeks to work out the kinks before the conference championship but we’re up for the challenge,” said Trujillo.

The Lobos have three weeks to prepare for the Mountain West Conference Championship which will be played on April 16-18th in Palm Springs, California.
