TEMPE, Ariz. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team sets off for their last regular season tournament in Tempe, Arizona on Friday, March 23rd before the Mountain West Conference tournament.
“We need to have a good showing here at ASU,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “There are a lot of great ranked teams here and our play should be on point.”
New Mexico is sharing the field that houses the previous NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Champions, Arizona State which are also the hosts of the annual PING/ASU Invitational. Also amongst the field, Arizona and Oklahoma State finished in the top-20 last year in the NCAAs.
The Lobos will be fielding a team of five and one individual in Tempe. UNM’s two seniors, Ingrid Gutierrez and Alexandra Moisand will be participating in their last regular season tournament for the Lobos of their collegiate careers. Junior, Darian Zachek will also be fielding for the Lobos and after being awarded Mountain West Golfer of the Week for a second time this spring season, Trujillo has high hopes that she will compete well for the Lobos.
“Darian has been paying great, but I know her focus is total team,” mentioned Trujillo.
UNM will be playing three rounds starting on Friday, March 23rd at the Karsten Golf Course and will continue through March 25th.
