Zachek Earns Second Mountain West Golfer of the Week

Colorado Springs, Colo. – New Mexico’s Darian Zachek and San Diego State’s Gioia Carpinelli are the Co-Mountain West Women’s Golfers of the Week. It’s the first time that Carpinelli has received the weekly recognition and it’s the second honor for Zachek.

DARIAN ZACHEK, NEW MEXICO
Junior, Deming, New Mexico / Deming HS
 

  • Zachek, who had the lowest first-round score of all MW competitors, finished tied for second at the El Tigre Invitational in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Zachek tied for second with San Diego State’s Carpinelli.
  • On the 6,085-yard, Par 72 El Tigre Golf Course, carded an even-par 216.
  • Zachek beat the No. 34 ranked Wenyung Keh by 7 strokes, No. 69 ranked Karen Miyamoto by 17 strokes and No. 72 ranked Gigi Stoll by three.
  • This is her best individual finish in a collegiate tournament and her third top-12 finish in a row.
  • In nine rounds this spring, she is averaging 72.9 shots per round.
  • Zachek is currently ranked No. 64 according to GolfStat, which is the best among all MW golfers.

  • Posted the Aztecs’ highest individual finish of the year with a second-place tie at the El Tigre Invitational, and recorded SDSU’s lowest 54-hole score of the season with an even-par 216.
  • Logged her first two rounds below par as an Aztec, shooting a 69-70 over the first 36 holes.
  • Carpinelli beat the No. 34 ranked Wenyung Keh by 7 strokes, No. 69 ranked Karen Miyamoto by 17 strokes and No. 72 ranked Gigi Stoll by three.
  • Drained 10 birdies for the week, including five in the second round.
  • Led the field of 78 golfers with a 3.88 scoring average on par-4 holes (-3). Also ranked fourth in the field on par-5s with a 4.80 stroke average (-3)
