SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The University of New Mexico men’s golf team ended Monday in 11th place out of 15 teams at the Lone Star Invitational in San Antonio, Texas. The Lobos shot a 2-over 290 in round one and a 9-over 297 in round two for an 11-over 587 total.
The Lobos were led by freshman Galven Green, who shot a team-best 2-under 70 in round one and a 2-over 74 in round two for an even 144 total and a share of 12th on the individual leaderboard. Redshirt senior Andre Garcia was one stroke behind Green, matching Green’s 2-under 70 in round one while shooting a 3-over 75 in round two for a 1-over 145 total. Sophomore Sam Dickey and senior Gustavo Morantes followed, with Dickey shooting a 3-over 75 in round one and a 1-over 73 in round two for a 4-over 148 total and Morantes shooting a 5-over 77 in round one and a 3-over 75 in round two for an 8-over 152 total. Junior Sean Carlon rounded out the Lobos’ field, shooting a 3-over 75 in round one.
Redshirt senior Ben Tolsma competed as an individual at the event, as well. Tolsma finished round one with a 9-over 81 and round two with a 6-over 78 for a 15-over 159 total.
No. 7-ranked Oklahoma led the 15 teams following Monday’s action. The Sooners ended round one with a 9-under 279 and round two with a 2-under 286 for an 11-under 565 total. UTEP and Arkansas State followed with both teams shooting 2-over 578 totals. UTEP shot a 2-over 290 in round one and an even 288 in round two, while Arkansas State flipped UTEP’s scores and shot an even 288 in round one and a 2-over 290 in round two.
The Lone Star Invitational will continue on Tuesday morning at 7:30 a.m. MT with one final round to finish the tournament.
