PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team clinched another top-10 finish this spring season at the Hawkeye El Tigre after carding a team total of 37-over 901 [297,297,307].

With a windy start to the final round in Puerto Vallarta, the Lobos had an extremely difficult start but hung in there for them to claim the 8th position on the leaderboard.

Junior Darian Zachek led the Lobos after earning a total score of even par-216 [68,72,76] and was crowned one of the runner-ups amongst this competitive field. Zachek was in the top-3 on the leaderboard after each round and has been consistently in the lead for her team for the past two invitationals.

Freshman Caroline Jansson had another strong showing as well after carding a total score of 12-over 228 [75,79,74]. Jansson has been consistent throughout this spring season for the Lobos and is in the running for qualifying for each tournament in her first year here at UNM. Following closely behind Jansson, senior Ingrid Gutierrez scored a total of 13-over 229 [76,73,80] at the Hawkeye El Tigre. Fellow senior, Alexandra Moisand earned a total score of 16-over 232 [78,77,77] and despite the wind, she showed consistency and composure throughout all three rounds. Gutierrez and Moisand have been crucial to the team’s success throughout this 2017-18 season and as they approach the end of their final seasons for the Lobos, they will continue to be the leaders their team expects. Another Lobo who has brought positivity and a strong work ethic to the team is sophomore, Reva Morris. Morris had a tough time in Mexico after shooting 16-over 232 [81,75,84], however she has already accomplished a lot in her first season as a Lobo.

Fielding as individuals for the Lobos was junior, Emma Edwards and redshirt-freshman, Zoey Akagi-Bustin. Edwards carded total of 28-over 244 [78,84,82] and her fellow teammate, Akagi-Bustin, earned a total score of 31-over 247 [80,79,88].

The Lobos will have a few days back in Albuquerque, N.M. before they head out to Tempe, Arizona for the PING/ASU Invitational hosted by Arizona State University. UNM will be teeing off against another competitive field on Friday, March 23rd.
