ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico softball team will head to Lubbock, Texas for the three-day J. McHaney Classic hosted by Texas Tech University. The Lobos will play two straight double-headers on Friday, March 2 and Saturday, March 3 before closing the event with a single game on Sunday.

UNM goes into the tournament with a 2-13 record, looking to get back on track against UTSA (7-5), Texas Tech (7-5) and Bowling Green (9-1). The Lobos will face UTSA and Texas Tech each twice and will take on Bowling Green once on the weekend.
The Lobos are led at the plate by senior Chelsea Johnson, who has hit .308 in her 15 games this season along with two homeruns and six RBI. Johnson leads the team in at-bats, hits and RBI, while she is tied for the lead in doubles, triples and home runs.
Senior Krissy Fortner has paced UNM in the circle. She leads the team in fewest hits-allowed with 33 of the three pitchers who have thrown more than 10 innings. Sophomore Jensen Main leads the Lobos in strikeouts with 19 in 29.2 innings pitched.
Following the J. McHaney Classic, the Lobos will return to Albuquerque to open their home slate with the Lobo Classic on Friday, March 9 through Saturday, March 11.
