UNM Settles Into 13th After Final Round in Hawaii

DAY THREE RESULTS

LIHUE, Hawaii — The University of New Mexico men’s golf team concluded play at the John Burns Intercollegiate at the Wailua Golf Course on Saturday after playing the third and final round. The Lobos finished the tournament in 13th place out of 20 teams, posting a round three score of 8-over 296 for a final score of 13-over 864.

Redshirt freshman Ross Sinclair was UNM’s top scorer at the event. He posted a 4-over 76 in his final round, earning an even 216 for his final tally. Redshirt senior Andre Garcia fell close behind Sinclair, scoring a 3-over 75 in round three for a 3-over 219 total. Sophomore Sam Dickey matched Garcia’s round three score, posting a 3-over 75 in round three for a 6-over 222 total. Junior Sean Carlon had the Lobos’ lowest round three score, shooting an even 72 for a 7-over 223 total. Freshman Galven Green rounded out the field for the Lobos, scoring a 2-over 74 in round three for a 10-over 226 total.

Redshirt senior Ben Tolsma finished tied for 72nd on the individual leaderboard after competing as an individual at the event. He posted a third round score of 3-over 75 for a final score of 7-over 223. Senior Gustavo Morantes ended his time in Hawaii with his best round of the tournament, scoring a 2-over 74 in round three for a 14-over 230 total.

After sitting in second for the entire tournament, No. 3 Texas A&M played its best round in the third round, shooting a 14-under 274 for a tournament-winning final score of 29-under 835. No. 24 North Carolina and UNLV ended the event tied for second. The Tar Heels shot a 3-under 285 in their final round, while the Rebels posted a 9-over 297. Both teams finished with a final total of 12-under 852.

The Lobos will be back in action on Monday, February 26 through Tuesday, February 27 when they travel to Malibu, California, for the Southwestern Invitational hosted by Pepperdine at the North Ranch Country Club.
