Sinclair Shines in Second Day of John Burns Intercollegiate

LIHUE, Hawaii — The University of New Mexico men’s golf team put in strong performances all around on Friday with all five golfers improving on their round one scores. The Lobos ended round two in 11th place out of 20 teams with a second round score of 7-under 281 and a total score of 5-over 581.

UNM was led once again by redshirt freshman Ross Sinclair. Sinclair posted a second round score of 4-under 68, good for a total of 4-under 140, giving him a share of 11th on the individual leaderboard. Redshirt senior Andre Garcia was the runner-up for the Lobos, scoring a 2-under 70 in round two for an even 144 total. Sophomore Sam Dickey was the third anf final Lobo to score under par, posting a 1-under 71 in the second round for a 3-over 147 total. Junior Sean Carlon and freshman Galven Green rounded out New Mexico’s lineup, with Carlon scoring an even 72 in round two for a 7-over 151 total, while Green scored a 2-over 74 in round two for an 8-over 152 total.

Redshirt senior Ben Tolsma led the Lobos’ two individual golfers. Tolsma scored a 4-over 76 in round two, bringing his total to a 4-over 148 while tying for 60th on the individual leaderboard. Senior Gustavo Morantes improved on his round one score by six strokes, posting a 3-over 75 in round two for a 12-over 156 total.

UNLV continues to lead after the second round, posting a 3-under 285 on Friday for a 21-under 555 total. No. 3 Texas A&M also held onto second place, scoring a 10-under 278 in round two for a 15-under 561 total. Arizona rounded out the top-three after matching the Aggies’ second round score of 10-under 278 and currently hold a total score of 10-under 566.
