ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team will host its annual LOBOS LOVE PINK game on Valentine’s Day, Wednesday, February 14, at Dreamstyle Arena – The Pit against Utah State. The Lobos will be wearing special pink jerseys to help raise awareness for breast cancer.
Last time the Lobos took on the Aggies, Utah State led for 36:10 and got out to as much as a 15-point lead before UNM cut it down to a three-point game with just one minute left. The Aggies eventually pulled off an 89-80 victory over the seven-man Lobo squad.
UNM (12-14, 7-6 MW) is 1-3 in the last four games including back-to-back losses to Boise State (73-71) and Air Force (100-92). The Lobos led at the halfway mark against both teams.
Utah State is 4-1 over their last five contests including back-to-back wins over UNLV (85-78) and Fresno State (81-79 OT).
The Lobos enter Wednesday’s matchup expected to be at full strength. UNM is also approaching a UNM record. The Lobos are ranked fifth in the nation in 3-point field goals per game (11.2) and 6th in total made 3-pointers (290). UNM is just 12 3-pointers away from breaking the UNM program-record 301 3-pointers in a single season.

SERIES HISTORY
Utah State leads the all-time history between the two squads 23-9 including claiming four of the last six contests. This includes the most recent matchup between the two squads, an 89-80 Lobo loss in Logan on Jan. 31 of this season. UNM cut a 15-point deficit down to just three with one minute remaining before the Aggies held on for the win.
The Lobos are 2-13 on the road against Utah State and 7-10 at home, including a 3-2 record inside The Pit.

UNM head coach Paul Weir enters the game 12-14 in his first season at the helm of the Lobos, 40-20 in his career. Utah State’s Tim Duryea is 44-44 in his third season at Utah State.
