Ski Team Hosts UNM Invitational This Weekend
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico ski team gets a chance to host the UNM/Drew Judycki Memorial/Jade Enterprises Invitational this upcoming weekend, with host being the operative word. Despite the home meet, the Lobo Nordic team does have to head out to Crested Butte, Colorado for the Nordic portion of the event, while the alpine team will host a double slalom in Red River, New Mexico.
The two slaloms will take place in Red River, New Mexico Saturday and Sunday, starting at approximately 9 a.m. both days. The best way for fans to get to the race course is via the Copper lift, which is located at the base of the mountain near the Three Bears Lodge. The two slalom courses are located side-by-side at the mid-point of the lift. The Nordic events in Crested Butte, Colorado will now be a 21K freestyle mass start for the men and women on Saturday, and a 5K classical individual start for both the men and the women on Sunday. The freestyle race is being run as a part of a larger race day in Crested Butte along the Alley Loop.
The Lobos finished its opening meet, the Montana State Invitational, in sixth place, and then moved up one to fifth at the Utah Invitational. The UNM Invitational will mark the first time this season UNM will have a complete team competing. UNM will look to keep it’s alpine streak alive of winning at least one race, as UNM’s three alpine wins (MSU men’s GS, MSU women’s GS, and Utah men’s SL) are the most in the RMISA this season (Colorado and Montana State each have two, and Denver has one title).
