Lobo Diving Team Heads to Flagstaff Ahead of MW Championships

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s diving team will head to Flagstaff, Ariz. for their final action before February’s Mountain West Championships in San Antonio, Texas. UNM was originally scheduled to appear at the Air Force Diving Invitational, but the event was canceled due to a pool malfunction.

The meet will be spread between two days. There will be two events on Friday, February 2 including the three-meter and one-meter dives, while the only event planned for Saturday, February 3 is platform. See below for an event schedule:

The Lobos are set to face three other teams at the event, including host Northern Arizona, in-state rival New Mexico State and Boise State. 

UNM is coming off of one of its best diving performances of the season in a dual-meet win versus New Mexico State on Senior Day. Junior Allyson Concepcion, sophomore Natasha Dark and freshman Hannah Tiendas led the Lobos, with all three finishing fourth or better in both the one-meter dive and the three-meter dive. 

Concepcion placed in the top-three of both events, scoring 266.18 in the one-meter (third place) and 299.33 in the three-meter (second-place). Dark posted a score of 264.75 in the one-meter, good for fourth place, and finished third in the three-meter with 280.58. Both Concepcion and Dark made NCAA Zone Cut in the three-meter dive.

Tiendas had the best performance in her young career, winning her first collegiate event and making NCAA Zone Cut in the one-meter dive with a final score of 273.13. She followed her victory with a fourth-place finish in the three-meter dive with a final score of 273.15.
