ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s skiers recorded a 4.95 grade point average for the Fall semester, tying for the second-best GPA in program, and athletic department history. The men’s squad recorded a 3.32 GPA as well as both programs continued to perform well in the classroom.

For the women’s squad, the 3.95 equaled the 3.95 GPA that the team recorded in Fall of 2015, and it was behind only last semester’s school record 4.01 GPA. It marked the fourth time in school history a program recorded at least a 3.9 GPA in a semester, as the women’s golf team recorded a 3.90 in the Spring of 2013.
For the women’s team, it marked the 21st straight semester with at least a 3.5 GPA, seventh straight semester with at least a 3.7 GPA, both the streaks the longest in UNM history. The men’s team, it marked the teams’ 38th straight semester with at least a 3.2 GPA.
“The members of our ski team are true student-athletes,” said head coach Fredrik Landstedt. “We take some long bus rides and our team spends a great deal of that time studying and doing homework. For many of our student-athletes, English isn’t even their second language, so I’m extremely proud of their hard work and dedication in the classroom.”
