Montana State Invitational Final Results
WEST YELLOWSTONE, Mont. — UNM’s shorthanded Nordic squad saw good marks and picked up enough points to finish sixth at the Montana State Invitational, led by newcomer Andrea Klementová, who earned her first career top 20 mark, finishing 16th.
Colorado won the meet with 658 points, and Utah was second with 581.5 points. Denver was third, Montana State was fourth and Alaska Anchorage was fifth with 419 points, with UNM behind them at 371. UNM was fourth after the alpine events last week.
UNM’s Nordic squad has potentially five newcomers headed to the program, but they will not be able to compete until the Jade Enterprises/UNM Invitational on February 3-4. The one newcomer with the team is Klementová, who just joined and after finishing 30th yesterday, took 16th in the women’s 10K freestyle race. That result scored her 16 points, and she was followed by Brenna Egan in 22nd place, scoring 12 points, and Carolyn Lucca, scoring 11.
UNM had just one men’s Nordic skier, Niklas Romback, and he scored 14 points with a 23rd place finish in the men’s 10K freestyle.
NOTES: The Nordic squad will remain in West Yellowstone as due to a lack of snowpack at Soldier Hollow, the Utah Invitational Nordic races next weekend will be held in West Yellowstone. That similar lack of snowpack has led UNM to announce that the Nordic events of the Jade Enterprises/UNM Invitational have been moved to Crested Butte, Colorado. The alpine events will still be in Red River.
