ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team looks to bounce back from its first Mountain West loss of the season as the Lobos travel to take on Wyoming 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Laramie.

The Lobos suffered their first loss in conference play as San Jose State defeated the Lobos 95-86 on Saturday at The Event Center.

The Spartans went 19-for-34 (55.9 percent) from the field, including 7-for-10 from 3-point range, in the second half to outscore UNM 53-37 over the final 20 minutes. On the flip side, the Lobos shot 14-for-37 (37.8 percent) from the field – including 3-for-17 from 3-point range – in the second half. That’s compared to shooting 50 percent in the first half (18-for-36) and 7-for-16 from beyond the arc.

Jaisa Nunn paced the Lobos with 31 points (her second 30-point effort of the season – the first player to score 30-plus points multiple times in a season since 1998-99) to go along with 10 rebounds and two blocks. Tesha Buck had 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals, Alex Lapeyrolerie had 13 points and six rebounds while Cherise Beynon just missed her third career triple-double with nine points, 12 assists and nine rebounds.

Wyoming has won two straight since dropping its Mountain West opener at San Diego State – including beating Boise State in Boise, 66-51, on Saturday. Liv Roberts paced the Cowgirls in the victory over the Broncos with 25 points, including going 9-for-9 from the field (2-for-2 from 3-point range).

Wyoming is statistically the top defensive team in the conference as the Cowgirls are allowing 55.9 points per game – ranked 18th in the NCAA. The Cowgirls are also second in the conference in field goal percentage defense (38.7 percent). Wyoming also ranks in the top 25 in the nation in 3-point field goal defense at 27 percent (No. 25 in the NCAA, third in the Mountain West).

Offensively, the Cowgirls are led by Liv Roberts as she’s averaging 12.5 points per game. She also leads Wyoming in rebounding (6.4). Taylor Rusk is nearly averaging double figures at 9.6 points per game while Marta Gomez (8.7) and Bailee Cotton (8.1) are both averaging more than 8.0 points per contest. Rusk and Gomez are the Cowgirls’ top 3-point threats as Rusk is 28-for-63 (44.4 percent) and Gomez is 27-for-53 (50.9 percent). Only Natalie Baker (12-for-46) has hit more than 10 3-pointers on the season for the Cowgirls.
