ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — After a heartbreaking loss at Boise State on Wednesday night that saw the Lobos fall with fractions of a second left on the clock, The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team returns to action when it hosts Fresno State on Saturday at 1 p.m. at WisePies Arena – The Pit.
Saturday’s game will mark UNM’s Lobos Love Pink game which will feature special jerseys, special promotions, exciting giveaways and fundraising efforts for the UNM Cancer Center. Fans wearing pink will be admitted to the game for just $5.
Not only does Saturday’s game include special prices and giveaways but the jerseys the Lobos wear during the game will be auctioned with proceeds going to the UNM Cancer Center, auction will end at halftime.
The Lobos (14-11, 9-5 MW) enter the game 5-2 in their last seven games. Senior Richelle van der Keijl led UNM against Boise State Wednesday with 22 points and continues her pursuit of 1,000 career points. She is now just 102 points away.
Fresno State (14-11, 7-7 MW) is coming off of back-to-back overtime losses at San Jose State on Wednesday and at home against the top team in the league, Colorado State, last Saturday. The team is led by 2015-16 Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year, Bego Faz Davalos who averages 14.8 points and 11.0 rebounds per game.
Series History:
The Lobos enter Saturday’s game 10-10 all time against the Bulldogs after their Mountain West opener this season which saw UNM claim an 80-54 victory on the road to improve to 2-7 at the Save Mart Center. UNM is 6-3 when hosting Fresno State in Albuquerque.
Last time the Bulldogs traveled to WisePies Arena – The Pit to face the Lobos was on Jan. 2, 2016 when UNM fell in double overtime by a score of 69-65.
The Coaches:
The Lobos are led by head coach Mike Bradbury in his first season with UNM, his 10th season overall. Bradbury posts a career record of 192-128 and is 14-11 at the helm of the Lobos.
Fresno State is coached by Jaime White in her third season. White posts a 59-33 record with the Bulldogs and a career record of 175-161 in her 11th season.
